The Robbery at Tiffany's

The yellow diamonds -- for which Tiffany's is known -- were still there. And most of the items that were stolen had been replaced with stock items, company officials said.
And that, Tiffany officials and the police said, indicated one of the few things that they felt certain about -- the robbers were not jewelers. Ambushed a Guard
Captain Blando said investigators were compiling a list of former and disgruntled employees. He would not say how many names have been listed or suggested. The guards were looking at photos of known thieves to see if anyone looked familiar, he said. If that does not work, investigators will put together composite sketches. Both men, who were in their 20's, wore black ski caps and carried handguns. One also wore a windbreaker with a badge of some sort.
The robbers escaped with a tape of the incident. Captain Blando declined to say if there was a backup tape. Its Costliest Robbery
A customer, Veronica McCarthy, who works at an insurance company, showed up at the store on her lunch break to see what had happened. She said she was not fazed by the incident.
